We are pleased to announce that “Living with Diabetes,” a diabetes self-management education program at Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates, has been awarded continued Recognition from the American Diabetes Association (ADA) for offering high-quality education services to the patients it serves. The program in our Braintree, Peabody-Lynnfield and Wellesley offices was originally recognized by the ADA in 2008, followed by Chelmsford and Kenmore in 2009, Concord in 2010 and Burlington in 2012.
The ADA Education Recognition effort, begun in the fall of 1986, is a voluntary process which assures that approved education programs have met the National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education Programs. Programs that achieve Recognition status have a staff of knowledgeable health professionals who can provide state-of-the-art information about diabetes management for participants.
Recognition assures high-quality education is delivered to patients to help them develop and improve their self-care skills, which are essential to diabetes management, and is one of the primary goals of the Education Recognition program. According to the ADA, it is through appropriate self-management that unnecessary hospital admissions and some of the acute and chronic complications of diabetes can be prevented.
The American Diabetes Association is the nation’s leading non-profit health organization supporting diabetes research, advocacy and information for health professionals, patients and the public. Founded in 1940, the Association has an area office in every state and conducts programs in communities nationwide.
