Our Kenmore practice is certainly abuzz with a lot of activity right now! While we highlighted the beautiful, modern new suite for our Oncology Department a month ago in this blog, there are many more new and exciting changes underway at Kenmore. If you haven’t been to visit us in a while, here’s a quick list of what’s happening:
A new, state-of-the-art breast imaging service recently opened on the fourth floor. The space includes an additional digital mammography unit which allows us to employ a new, 3D imaging technology called tomosynthesis and the capability to perform stereotactic breast biopsies. We have also added an additional breast ultrasound unit. In August, an adjoining breast surgical unit will open, and our breast surgery clinicians, Dixie Mills, MD, Paige Teller, MD, and Martha Kleinerman, NP, will begin to see patients in the new space. When complete, the new breast imaging and surgical center suite will provide the space, technology and resources to offer our patients comprehensive services and expertise for the evaluation and management of breast problems.
Hand surgeons Marty Dolan, MD and Peter Kim, MD have continued to expand the surgical procedures they are able to do in the office. With support from the terrific staff in the Orthopedic Department, they now perform carpal tunnel and trigger finger procedures right in the Kenmore office, a great convenience to patients who previously had to go to a surgi-center or a hospital.
Ralph Iannuzzi, MD, Chief of our Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Department, is pleased to have two pediatric ENT surgeons – Dr. Michael Cohen and Dr. Donald Keamy – available to see patients at Kenmore in addition to their offices at Mass Eye and Ear Infirmary. Parents speak very highly of their experience and care and are very happy with the ease and convenience of seeing them at Kenmore.
Our Internal Medicine (IM) Department has added two new primary care physicians, Dr. Su Hutchinson and Dr. Renu Soni. They join other IM physicians who are accepting new patients into our adult medicine practice.
We are working with VPNE Parking Solutions who have provided staff for parking assistance at both the main vehicle drop-off and inside our parking garage. If it’s more convenient and if you’d like the help, simply leave your car with a VPNE team member identified by their red shirts with the VPNE logo. There is no additional cost to our patients for this convenient service beyond the normal parking fee.
Activities are well underway to move the Pediatrics Department into new space on the sixth floor. This will occur in the beginning of next year and will feature all new space designed by the pediatric staff, patient families and members of our Patient Family Advisory Council.
When you walk through Kenmore’s 1st floor Atrium, there are several new sights to see. Au Bon Pain is reopened, and many are now enjoying the cheerful new space, including the patio seating on Brookline Avenue under the trees. And widely praised by patients, we have asked South End Florist to continue their presence in our lobby, selling beautiful flowers, plants, and fruits.
Our Urgent Care department is now performing Department of Transportation (DOT) physicals for any driver who needs an exam to be done in a certified location. Drivers of commercial vehicles needing the certificate can call 617-421-1194 to schedule an appointment and usually the certificate can be issued that day.
Planning continues for a Kenmore 45th Anniversary celebration, grounded in a public art project which will feature renowned Boston street artist, Sidewalk Sam. Stay tuned, as more details will be shared in August and September. The anniversary events will be held during the week of October 27th with a grand celebration on October 29th in the Atrium.
